Lawrence J. Wannerpassed away on June 8th, 2018. Lawrence
was one of our faithful servants and supporters of our church. He sand in the
integrated the Women's Bible Study Fellowship, and was most
faithful in attendance. We give thanks for his fine example. Farewell services
were held at Russon Funeral Home with burial in the Centerville cemetery.
Wonderful songs and tributes were given by great grandchildren and daughters
Cindy and Michele. As Lawrence said,
I am going home to be with Jesus.
We sure do miss him.
Long time church member Phyllis Elaine Allen, age 79, passed away on December 12th, 2017. She is survived by her brother Norman Baker, son Paul (Renee) Allen, daughter Margaret (Daniel) Keene, and her grandchildren, Melissa, Noah, Kristen and Katelin. Preceded in death by her husband Ralph, sister Margaret June, and brothers Raymond and Larry. Phyllis Allen was born on December 17th, 1937 to Margaret and Noel Baker. Married Ralph Allen and had two children. Phyllis was very active and always giving her time to the community. She volunteered at the Senior Center and at JA Taylor Elementary School. She was active at the First Baptist Church of Bountiful, the local Red Hat Society and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Chap. Iota Master. She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandma and friend. She was loved and will be missed by many. The family would like to thank all for their thoughts, love and prayers during her recent illness. She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandma and friend. The family would like to thank all for their thoughts, love and prayers during her recent illness.Velvet Scherer died on Monday, November 6th, following emergency surgery and subsequent sepsis. Reverend Proctor first met Velvet in 1972 and she has been the church secretary for about 10 years and did a wonderful job. Her parents were faithful friends and members until their death. Velvet sang in the church choir for many years and was very active with Job's Daughters. The funeral service for Velvet was held on Saturday, November 11th in Malad, Idaho.
Patricia Lemmon, long a servant and member of First Baptist Church, died on Saturday Oct 14, 2017. Patty directed the church choir for years, recently serving as chairperson of the church board. She had previously served as church secretary, and on the diaconate, among other offices. Patty was the wife of "By" Lemmon and mother of Rob Lemmon (our church treasurer), and a grandmother. Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, October 21st. A graveside ceremony followed at Fort Douglas cemetery in Salt Lake City, and a lunch at First Baptist Church.
Tragic News. Gary and Melba Mecham passed away late in the evening of December 15th due to an electrical fire in their home caused by the lighting on their Christmas tree. More details are available on the Davis County Clipper - Couple killed in Woods Cross fire. A memorial service was held on December 22nd at the First Baptist Church. A lunch and open house was served by friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Many friends, neighbors and members of First Baptist Church were present. It was a delightful tribute for Melba and Gary. At 1 p.m. a private memorial service was held. Burial rites were said, and appropriate prayers offered. The family then left to inter the ashes in a family cemetery near Preston, Idaho. Thanks be to God...We will surely miss them. May they rest in peace.
Ray Rasmussen died on October 7th, 2016. He helped to build and assisted in many projects at First Baptist Church. Graveside services were held October 14th at the Bountiful City Cemetery. We extend our heartfelt prayer of support to the family and friends. May he rest in peace. We say thanks to Ray and Cora for all their many contributions through the years.
Mitsuo Morishita. An open house was held by Betty, Debbie and Aaron in celebration of the life and death of "Mits" on October 15th. Family and friends gathered to give thanks for the many memories and his long life. Thanks to the Morishitas for the wonderful food which all enjoyed. May he rest in peace.
The memorial service for Shirley Walton was held on Saturday, September 3 2016. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1982. Shirley "did it all" as a member of the church. Serving as a trustee, teacher, choir member, diaconate, et cetera. She has been missed since moving to Welcome Home about 6 years ago. Rest in Peace Shirley, and thanks from all of us.
